Overview

Glowfield generates copy-paste background effects for hero sections and posters: seven effects (dot fields, a flicker grid, refractable glass tiles, a pixel-reveal image mask, volumetric god rays, flowing aurora gradients, and a particle-network constellation), each with its own animation library and a shared circle/square/freehand mask. Everything exports as PNG, SVG, MP4/WebM, or a dependency-free HTML embed snippet.

How it works

Every effect renders through three parallel implementations of the exact same math: a Canvas 2D renderer for the live preview and raster export, a real vector SVG renderer for the SVG export, and a dependency-free JS twin baked into the copy-paste embed snippet. The shared geometry and motion formulas live in one canonical file that the SVG exporter imports directly; the embed snippet's JS twin is hand-ported since it can't import TypeScript modules, so every renderer change has to be mirrored there by hand.

Iterating on effects

The effect library isn't fixed. An early radial "Glyph" gradient effect went through several full rewrites chasing a specific reference look, then got removed outright once it stopped earning its keep, replaced by three effects built from an open brief instead of a reference image: Beams (god rays from a light source that can be dragged off-canvas), Aurora (soft flowing mesh-gradient blobs derived from one primary color), and Constellation (a particle network with distance-tapered connecting lines). All three deliberately stick to Canvas 2D gradient and blend techniques rather than WebGL shaders, since a shader effect can't be mirrored into the SVG and embed renderers without breaking that shared-math architecture.
